LEARN TO VAULT

RECREATIONAL VAULTING CLASSES

Thanksgiving Camp; Nov 24-26th $475/9am-3pm
Experience the thrill of the Equestrian Arts at our School Break Vaulting Camp.  Designed for kids ages 7-14, this dynamic camp blends the excitement of horse vaulting (gymnastics and dance on horseback) with a range of engaging activities. Campers will build strength and coordination with acrobatics and time on the movie/barrel. They will learn essential horsemanship skills, and express their creativity through arts, crafts and games. Adding to the fun, we will incorporate classic circus activities like juggling, pedalo, flower sticks, and hula hoop. The week culminates in a spectacular camper show where participants get to proudly demonstrate their newly acquired vaulting and circus skills for family and friends. It's the perfect mix of sport, art, and fun! The camp will be lead by credentialed public school teacher, MEVC vaulting coach, and circus camp director, Jen Ellington.

Register for Thanksgiving Camp!
We offer an individual based model of vaulters who are grouped based on their level. All classes will incorporate basic horsemanship and safety skills.

We’ll start off on the vaulting barrels and then move onto a safe, walking vaulting horse as students progress at their own pace.

Enrollment Starting in January
Class meets 1x a week
It’s our firm belief that sometimes Boys Need to be Boys. Thus, this class is for boys ages 8 and up, with no focus whatsoever on pointed toes, and lots of focus on (safe)“derring-do” and horses and fun! As with other classes, this session can be used either as preparation for horseback riding later, or as a foundation for fun and excitement in equestrian vaulting. 1.5 hour class.

What do I need to wear/bring to class?

Vaulters should wear the following to class:
  • Vaulting shoes for vaulting (The vaulter may wear water shoes, ballet, tennis, or other soft shoes for the first few classes)
  • Tennis shoes for tacking and untacking the horse
  • Form-fitting t-shirt and leggings or sweat pants.  Leotards are also encouraged.
  • Hair should be pulled away from the face.  Long hair should be in a ponytail or bun.

Vaulting Safety

Beginning vaulters first learn general and horse safety, and quickly progress to practicing their moves on a vaulting barrel, a stationary padded, metal drum, attached to legs, with a vaulting surcingle (handles) attached. Once vaulters are comfortable with their moves on a barrel, they progress to a horse moving at a walk, oftentimes with a spotter right beside them. As vaulters progress up the ranks, the vaulting gaits change from a walk to a trot, and at the highest level vaulters perform on, and in concert with, a cantering horse.
