Vaulting Safety
Beginning vaulters first learn general and horse safety, and quickly progress to practicing their moves on a vaulting barrel, a stationary padded, metal drum, attached to legs, with a vaulting surcingle (handles) attached. Once vaulters are comfortable with their moves on a barrel, they progress to a horse moving at a walk, oftentimes with a spotter right beside them. As vaulters progress up the ranks, the vaulting gaits change from a walk to a trot, and at the highest level vaulters perform on, and in concert with, a cantering horse.
If we sign up for a "Learn to Vault" class can we still compete?
We do allow our Learn to Vault members to compete in local fun shows as long as we have the competitive horse power. Along with competition fee's there may be association membership fees as well.
How do we sign up to be on a competitive team?
Talk to your coach and our Vaulting Program Director about your interest. We typically pick teams in September for the season. We often have a spot available as an "alternate" and you could become a competitive individual immediately.
My child is nervous, how can you help?
In our Learn to Vault recreation classes, we focus on confidence building and fun! These classes are taught at each individual vaulter's pace.
Do you offer make-ups for missed classes?
Our Learn to Vault recreation classes are run monthly, make-ups are allowed within the month if there is room in a class of equal or lesser value.
Do we vault in all weather?
Vaulting is a year long sport and we vault in all sorts of weather. Sometimes we will not get on the horse due to weather or training needs, but we will have practice. Over the summer, if the schedule allows, coaches may coordinate with members on moving classes to early morning or evenings when it is cooler.
